Friday, 13 February, 2009

Within the project Open Doors Week from 16-20 February 2009 SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz) and a number of other Latvian companies invite children and youth from several schools of Latvia for a visit to tell them about work and career opportunities, which are offered by these companies.

The organizers of project – an association Jauniešu konsultācijas (Youth Consultations) – informed us that this year for the visits to companies in Riga and in the regions of Latvia there have already applied more than 5000 youngsters. 150 of them during this week will visit SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš and LDz Ritošā sastāva serviss Ltd (RSS).

LDz personnel specialists and responsible managers will present to pupils and individual visitors the railway company and will organize visits to train traffic control centre in Riga, freight wagon marshalling hump in Riga marshalling yard, as well as to locomotive and wagon repair centres in Riga and Daugavpils.

Raimonds Grīnbergs, Personnel Specialist of LDz Personnel Development and Training Division and Gunta Borisēviča, Head of RSS Human Resources Division said that there has been a very high interest on this event, therefore, it was necessary to organize a selection of the visitors. “There was a very high interest, therefore, we gave preference to those students and pupils, who have chosen railway as their speciality,” specified Gunta Borisēviča.

“Although there are no vacancies in our company now, we understand that soon we will need new capable workers, because many experienced experts, who work for the company currently, will retire. We are delighted that the youth express an interest to visit our company, and we invite all those, who are interested in railway, to acquire railway profession in an educational institution, because when there are selected candidates for work in our company, we give preference to those, who have a better education, “ said Raimonds Grīnbergs.

Project Open Doors Week is organized for the second time; LDz participates in this project for the first time.
