Grants will be given to the best students of railway speciality

On 3 April 2009 in Latvian Railway History Museum Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz) will award grants to the best university and professional secondary school students who study railway speciality.

By giving grants to the best students LDz invites the youth to study deeply the subjects of railway speciality, to widen their vision, to show courage by developing new technological solutions, and to reveal creativity.

The works that were submitted for competition in 2009 were evaluated by expert commission of Development Fund of Riga Technical University and LDz. The best works were from Riga Technical University, Latgale Transport and Communications Technical School and Riga Railway School. In accordance with results of the competition grants for the second semester of school year 2008/2009 will be given to five master students, four bachelor students, and 14 professional secondary school students.

Tradition to organize competitions of research papers in railway speciality and to award grants to the authors of the best works began 10 years ago. During this time the amount of grants and the number of grant holders have increased. Majority of former grant holders now work for concern Latvijas dzelzceļš.
