On 2 September around 19:15 at railway crossing between railway station Trepe and Līvāni happened an accident – an excavator crashed into the train No. 609 Daugavpils-Riga.
A woman (train passenger) died of injuries in the hospital after being hit in the accident. Another train passenger and an excavator driver were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The train belonging to JSC Pasažieru vilciens was seriously damaged and cannot be further put in exploitation.
The accident influenced train traffic – the train No. 618 Riga-Daugavpils r a n only from Riga to station Krustpils. Passengers were taken to the destination by bus. Freight trains No. 2749, 2751, 2753 and the train No. 1525 were delayed.
There were no serious damages to rail track and it was reopened to traffic at 21:56.
Road police was called to the place of accident and currently there takes place an investigation of the crash.
