Wireless Internet access will be available on Riga – Moscow train

From 1 October 2009 for passenger convenience on Riga – Moscow train will be available wireless Internet access.

The service is provided by LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš in cooperation with L-Ekspresis Ltd. andTriatel.

Free wireless Internet access will be available on the train in the territory of Latvia from 1 October 2009, when the train Riga – Moscow will depart from Riga Central passenger station at 18:10. Until border station Zilupe the train is running around four hours arriving there at 22:19. On the way back the train will depart from station Zilupe at 08:07 and will arrive in Riga passenger station at 12:05.

Latvijas dzelzceļš is a modern company, which implements the newest technologies, and we hope that this service will help people choose railway transport not only as the most environmentally friendly and the safest, but also the most comfortable transport mode, because now passengers have a chance to work on the Internet and to use the Internet for entertainment while traveling,” said Uģis Magonis, Chairman of the Board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš.

Passengers need only a laptop and a train ticket to use wireless Internet on the train.

Mihails Zotovs, Member of the Board of Triatel emphasized: ”Internet service on trains will widen considerably Triatel internet use opportunities and will ensure better passenger comfort. We are sure that the passengers will have a huge interest in this service. Thanks to successful cooperation of three companies we have made an important step towards modernization of passenger transportations. We are satisfied with implementation of the new and unique service in the international train Riga – Moscow.”

Concern Latvijas dzelzce ļš comprises the holding company SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš and four subsidiaries – LDz Cargo Ltd., which is a rail freight and passenger operator; LDz infrastruktūra Ltd., which provides infrastructure construction and maintenance works; LDz ritošā sastāva servissLtd., which provides rolling stock repairs and maintenance works, and LDz Apsardze – a security company.

LDz Cargo Ltd, a subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš is one of the biggest excise tax payers in the state.

L-Ekspresis Ltd. is a rail passenger operator, which provides carriages, performs carriage maintenance, as well as provides passenger services in international routes.
