LDz Cargo will postpone demurrage charge increase

Monday, 1 June, 2009

The management board of LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš has decided to postpone charge increase for freight wagon demurrage on tracks and branch-lines until 1 September 2009.

LDz Cargo planned to change the method of calculating demurrage charge on 1 June 2009 by implementing stricter regulations for wagon demurrage. However, after improving cooperation with clients, rail freight owners, forwarders and logistics companies rolling stock demurrage on tracks and branch-lines considerably diminished,” said Guntis Mačs, Chairman of the Board of LDz Cargo.

“At the beginning of year the situation was critical – more than 4800 wagons were standing on tracks. Currently there are no considerable rail freight bottlenecks, therefore, we decided to postpone implementation of the new calculating of demurrage charge,” commented G.Mačs.

LDz Cargo is interested in ensuring rapid rail cargo movement, because demurrage decreases cargo throughput.
