“During global economic recession LDz Cargo makes situation analysis, tries to find solutions, and it gives the results. The volumes of cargos handled in the ports increase, “ Guntis Mačs, Chairman of the Board of LDz Cargo Ltd, made a comment on performance indicators.

In March 2009 there was an increase in overland transit and domestic transportations; hence there is stabilization in volumes of this kind of cargo. In the first quarter of this year there were transported 803 and 322 thousand tons of cargos, respectively.

In first three months of 2009 most of all there was carried oil and oil products – 5.68 million tons.

The amount of coal carried by rail grew by 27.3% and in March 2009 reached 5.47 million tons.

The amount of chemical cargos in March 2009 has increased by 17.0%, ie. 714 thousand tons.

There was a decrease in transportation of grain and flour products, mineral fertilizers and ferrous metals. The fall in transportation of these cargos is mainly connected with a rapid decline in demand for these products in the world markets.
