Latvijas dzelzceļš continues to organize security lessons in schools of Latvia

Thursday, 3 September, 2009

Latvijas dzelzceļš will educate children and youth on security at railway in the schools of Latvia also this school year.

In these lessons with the help of different games, competitions and animated cartoons the children get to know how to cross the railway tracks, behave on the platforms or in the trains correctly, and learn many interesting things about railway and trains in a friendly environment.

“We have always emphasized that security is in the first place for us and it is especially important to protect our children – the most vulnerable group of society. The school year has just started, and children return from the countryside to the cities after summer holidays. Pretty often they go to school by train, or cross the railway tracks. Therefore, it is very important that children know how to behave on railway correctly. All this will be taught in these lessons by our employees,” pointed LDz Chairman of the Board Uģis Magonis.

The first Security lesson in this school year will be conducted on 8 September in Riga Secondary School No 63.

Māra Baumane, Head of Internal Communication of LDz said that each year schools express huge interest in these lessons. “Even before the beginning of the new school year we have already received invitations to organize security lessons there, therefore I suggest the schools to duly apply. We usually prefer the schools, which are located at the railway,” told M.Baumane.

M.Baumane pointed that LDz is ready to organize security lessons not only in schools, but also in Latvian Railway History Museum. In the museum children will have a chance to participate in security lessons and view the museum expositions, as well as wagons and locomotives that are manufactured in the previous century.

Teachers or parents, who would like to apply for security lessons, should contact LDz Public Relations Division by phone: +371 67232284; fax: +371 67232605, or e-mail: mara.baumane@ldz.lv
