Considerable growth in cargo volumes

In the first three months of this year LDz Cargo Ltd has carried 18% more cargos than in the respective period of 2007. This year there have been transported 14 374 thousand tons of cargos, but last year in the first three months - 12 124 thousand tons.

The largest volumes of cargos transported in this period were dominated by oil and oil products, ie. 5759 thousand tons and coal, ie. 4304 thousand tons, as well as mineral fertilizers, ie. 1275 thousand tons. The transportation of mineral fertilizers in the first quarter of the year has decreased by 23.7% compared to 2007 when there was transported 1670 thousand tons of this product. Decrease in volumes occurred due to the discontinuation of potassium salt transportation from Belarus to Ventspils Free Port in February 2008. (detailed information of carried freight is here)

Ēriks Šmuksts, Chairman of the Board, LDz Cargo Ltd. emphasized: “Growth in cargo volumes indicates that there is a steadily growing tendency; therefore, the stabilization of cargo growth allows us to concentrate on service quality improvement.”

Also this year the largest amounts of main cargos (oil products, coal, etc.) were carried in cooperation with the cooperation partners from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, and Central Asian countries.

This year there has increased transportation of oil products, coal, grain and chemicals. The grain is transported mainly from Kazakhstan, as well as from Russia, Lithuania and Ukraine. Ammonia is the dominant product in chemical cargos, which is transported mainly from Russia, as well as from Estonia and Lithuania.
