In the first ten months of this year LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš has carried 45526 thousand tons of cargo, which is 6.6 % more than in the respective period of 2007.
In the first ten months of 2007 there were carried 42720 thousand tons of cargo.
The biggest increase was in export transportations, ie. 2163 thousand tons of cargo. Compared to the respective period of 2007, this year export transportations have increased by 10.4%. Import transportations also have increased – this year they increased by 8.9% and reached 37937 thousand tons, in the first ten months of 2007 import transportations reached 34847 thousand tons. In its turn, there was a decrease in overland transit (-5.5%), ie. 3970 thousand tons, and in domestic transportations (-15%), ie. 1456 thousand tons.
The main kinds of cargo carried by rail were oil, oil products and coal. This year LDz Cargo Ltd. has carried 15930 thousand tons of oil and oil products (last year – 15879 thousand tons). The amount of coal carried by rail has increased by 21.7% (11800 thousand tons – last year, 14364 thousand tons – this year).
A big increase was in transportation of chemicals (+59.9%) – in the first ten months of 2007 – 1416 thousand tons, but in ten months of 2008 – 2264 thousand tons. Considerable increase was in transportation of grain and flour product - this year there have been transported 1020 thousand tons, which is 31.4% more than in the respective period of 2007, when there were transported 776 thousand tons of grain and flour products. Transportation of ferrous metals increased by 7.2%, ie. 2380 thousand tons this year.
In its turn, there was a decrease in transportation of mineral fertilizers carried by rail. In ten months of 2008 and 2007 - 4332 and 4635 thousand tons (-6.5%), respectively.
Amount of mineral substances carried by rail reached 1625 thousand tons, which is 6.9% less than in ten months of 2007, when there were carried 1746 thousand tons.
This year there have been carried 43703 TEU container units, which is 2.6% less than in ten months last year.
