In the first eight months of this year LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš has carried 36702 thousand tons of cargo, which is 6.7% more than in the first eight months of 2007, when there were carried 34418 thousand tons of cargo. (detailed information here)
Compared to last years statistics export transportations have increased by 10.5% and reached 1724 thousand tons. Import makes up the biggest part of transportations; in the respective period there were transported 30604 thousand tons, which is 8.1% more than last year. Compared to the first eight months of 2007 overland transit in the respective period of 2008 has remained almost constant – 3261 thousand tons, but domestic transportations (1113 thousand tons) have decreased by 13.3%.
In the first eight months of 2008 the main kinds of cargos carried by rail were oil, oil products and coal. In the respective period there were transported 13015 thousand tons of oil and oil products, which is 0.6% more than in the respective period of 2007. Compared to the results of last year amount of coal carried by rail has increased by 25.9%, ie. 11736 thousand tons. Transportations of chemical products in the first eight months of 2008 have increased by 50.9%, ie. 1687 thousand tons. Transportations of grain and flour products also have increased; in the respective period of 2008 there were carried 705 thousand tons of grain and flour products, which is 19.5% more than last year. Transportation of metals has grown by 8.7% compared to 2007, when there were transported 1811 thousand tons of metals, but in the first eight months of 2008 – 1968 thousand tons of metals.
Amount of mineral fertilizers carried by rail has decreased by 11.4%, ie. 3431 thousand tons. Transportation of mineral substances in the respective period of 2008 has decreased by 6.1%, ie. 1272 thousand tons.
In the first eight months of 2008 there were transported 35823 TEU container units, which is 5% more than in the respective period of 2007, when there were transported 34138 TEU container units.
