Construction works at Riga Central Station

The construction of temporary elevated platforms continues at Riga Central Station. During this period, train passengers should take note of several important changes. Some sections of platforms are partially closed, and the designated boarding/alighting areas have been modified. We advise passengers to plan extra time to reach the necessary platform.

Starting July 31, as the construction of temporary elevated platforms continues at Riga Central Station, the following changes will apply:

  • Platform 1 will be opened, and the passenger boarding/alighting area will be changed:
    • Trains arriving at or departing from tracks 11 and 12 will stop at the open section of Platform 1;
    • Construction will begin on the closed section of Platform 1 near Dzirnavu Street.
  • Platform 3 remains partially closed, with the section near Dzirnavu Street not accessible:
    • Trains arriving at or departing from tracks 3 and 4 will stop at the open section of Platform 3, located closer to the Station building;
    • Passengers heading to Platform 3 from the Station building should continue using tunnels A and C. Passengers approaching from the Dzirnavu Street side are advised to cross over to Platforms 2 or 4 and use the bypass route through Tunnel A in the Station building.

To ensure a more convenient, safer, and more accessible railway system for all passengers—including level boarding onto the new “Vivi” electric trains, SJSC “Latvian Railways” will build temporary elevated platforms at 16 stations and stops across the country by the end of this year. The construction of temporary platforms has already been completed at Torņakalns and Zasulauks stations. Construction is currently ongoing at Vagonu Parks and Riga Central Station.
