AS Latvenergo makes it possible for protected users that have been granted support to pay a lower fee for the electric power consumed, the distribution system services, the mandatory procurement and power components each month.
According to Article 331 of the Electricity Market Law concerning the protection of users in electric power trade, the following groups of protected users can receive support for paying their bills in 2018:
- Multi-child families that have three or more children or wards under 18. If the family has 3 or more children, and one or multiple of the children are 18 to 24 years old and continue their studies, this family can still receive the support;
- Persons with Group 1 disabilities and families, in whose care there is a disabled child under 18;
- Poor and low-income persons.
Please note:
- The support is provided in reference to the electric power trading agreement concluded with VAS ‘Latvijas dzelzceļš’;
- You do not have to be the person that signed this agreement. You can also obtain support in paying for electric power that you consume in a rented home or if you pay for the electricity to the utility company that maintains your building;
- only one type of support can be received at any single time. For example, a multi-child family with a low-income status may only receive the support that is intended for multi-child families, and may not receive support for low-income persons at the same time.

What is a multi-child family?
- Multi-child families are families that have three or more underage children or wards.
- Multi-child families are also families with three or more children, in which one or multiple children are 18—24 years old and continue their studies in a general, professional or higher education institution.
How to get support?
- To get the support, you must contact your municipal social service;
- The representative of the social service must specify the number of the electric power trade agreement, concluded between AS Latvenergo and VAS ‘Latvijas dzelzceļš’;
- The social service representative will check the information about you multi-child family status, then informing AS Latvenergo, which in turn will notify VAS ‘Latvijas dzelzceļš’ about the provision of the support;
- After the information is verified, the support will be granted by the end of the year;
How is the support applied?
- The support makes it possible to reduce the price of the first 300 kilowatt-hours, distribution system services and mandatory procurement and power components for each payment period (calendar month) (see Table 1 for an example of calculation for 320 kWh).
- Electric power consumption fee, with support, is 0.03758 EUR/kWh (without VAT).
- Support in the amount of 6.72 EUR (without VAT)* is provided to each family for the distribution system service and mandatory purchase components payments.

Important!
- If the power consumption during the calendar month is higher than the number kilowatt-hours included with the support, then the remaining consumption is subject to the electricity fee determined by VAS ‘Latvijas dzelzceļš’: 0.03895 EUR/kWh (without VAT).
- Kilowatt-hours covered by support do not accumulate! Remember that if you do not consume all the kilowatt-hours that your support covers for the month, the remaining kilowatt-hours will not be carried over to the following months.
- If the payment for the electric power consumed the previous month is not made, the power component payment amount is automatically deducted from the support amount. The remaining part of the support amount (if positive) is carried over to the next month. If the remaining part of the support amount is negative, then an arrears notification is issued (Table 4 shows an example of calculation for 40 kWh).
