Wednesday, 14 October, 2009

On 14 October at the Farmers co-operative LATRAPS in Eleja LDz Ritošā sastāva serviss (LDz Rolling Stock Service, LDz RSS), subsidiary of Latvijas dzelzceļš (LDz) presented the first modernized shunting diesel locomotive, which is equipped with a diesel engine that corresponds to ecology norms Euro 3.

Currently in Latvia operates locomotives with exhaust emissions norm that corresponds to Euro 2 standard requirements, but the modernized locomotive TGM23BV-1633 is equipped with a new 500 hp diesel engine Penta manufactured by the concern Volvo with exhaust emissions norm Euro 3A, thus, this locomotive is the most environmentally-friendly locomotive in Latvia.

Modernization project of the locomotive is remarkable, because it is the first locomotive, which has been modernized by LDz subsidiary LDz RSS in cooperation with Estonian company Baltic Marine Group, but the client is the co-operative LATRAPS. “We are satisfied that services of our company are appreciated by Latvian private companies. It means that our subsidiary is a competitive company with high quality services. Currently an interest in LDz RSS services is also expressed by other Latvian companies – I hope that we will work successfully also in the future,” pointed LDz Chairman of the Board Uģis Magonis.

“Thanks to LDz RSS and our colleagues from Estonia - Baltic Marine Group, our locomotive now has more horsepower and we can be sure that cargos will be delivered in time. The locomotive is equipped with an engine that has a new control device, which is necessary for engine operation. This locomotive is an economical, strong, handy and a low-costs instrument. It is important that we can operate this locomotive also with 30 per cent biodiesel admixture, which we produce ourselves,” told LATRAPS Chairman of the Board Gunvaldis Sproģis.

Deputy Executive Director of LATRAPS Juris Cinītis said that the choice of LDz RSS as a cooperation partner was not unintentional. “Our company philosophy is to support Latvian companies. I have to admit that the offer of LDz RSS was the most favorable, therefore, we are very glad that we can use services of Latvian company,” he added.

The farmers co-operative LATRAPS is a farmers company in Latvia, which has been founded in 2000 and has become the biggest cooperative of grain/rapeseed planters in Latvia. It consists of 537 farmers from Zemgale, Vidzeme, Kurzeme and Latgale.
