Joint Stock Company Pasažieru vilciens (Passenger Train) in cooperation with Riga municipality Rīgas satiksme Ltd. from 1 June 2008 will introduce new unified monthly ticket for passengers using trains and public transport in Riga.
New monthly ticket will be used for travels in the following kinds of public transport:
- In domestic passenger trains of JSC Pasažieru vilciens
- In Riga city public transport: buses, trolleybuses and trams of Riga municipality Rīgas satiksme Ltd.
There will be available monthly tickets for full month or for working days in the following kinds of transport:
- Trains and one public transport mode in Riga in one route;
- Trains and one public transport mode in Riga;
- Trains and two public transport modes in Riga;
- Trains and three public transport modes in Riga.
Unified monthly tickets will be available from 1 June 2008 in 27 largest ticket offices of JSC Pasažieru vilciens in the area of electric trains. 10 days beforehand there will be advance sale. As from 1 July 2008 monthly tickets will be available in all ticket offices of JSC Pasažieru vilciens in the area of electric train. Unified monthly tickets can be bought at any date of the month; 5% discount will be adjusted to ticket price.
As from 1 June 2008 calculation system of ticket prices for travels in electric trains and diesel-engine trains will be changed. Distance of travel with fixed fare is increased up to 14 km; so far it was 10 km. Ticket price for the first 14 km for one travel is determined 40 santims. Distance of travel with fixed fare is extended and prices are changed due to gradual railway traffic integration in Riga public transport system.
Fare for the travels longer than 14 km will remain unchanged. Changes in calculation system of ticket prices for travels also refer to monthly tickets and reduced tickets. Actual increase of ticket prices for the first 14 km for one travel will be 2-10 santims. For instance, in direction to Ogre the travel Riga-Šķirotava will cost 10 santims more, Riga-Rumbula – 7 santims more, Riga-Dārziņi – 2 santims more.
JSC Pasažieru vilciens is the sole domestic passenger rail operator in Latvia. For the time being JSC Pasažieru vilciens provides passenger transportation in eleven routes, four of them are electric train routes and seven – diesel-engine train routes.
