In the first nine months of this year LDz Cargo Ltd., subsidiary of State Joint Stock Company Latvijas dzelzceļš, has carried 40882 thousand tons of cargo, which is 6.3% more than in the first nine months of 2007, when there were carried 38465 thousand tons of cargo.
The biggest increase – 11.3% - is in import transportations through the stations near ports. In the first nine months of 2008 there were carried 30568 thousand tons of cargo, but last year in the respective period – 27468 thousand tons. In the first nine months of this year there was an increase also in export transportations – 1947 thousand tons of cargo, which is 10.2% more than in the respective period of 2007. Total import transportations have increased by 8.1%, ie. 34022 thousand tons of cargo in the first nine months of this year. Overland transit transportations have decreased by 2.6%, ie. in the first nine months of 2007 there were carried 3718 thousand tons, but in the respective period of 2008 – 3620 thousand tons.
The main kind of cargo carried by rail was oil and oil products. In the first nine months of 2008 there were carried 14473 thousand tons of oil products, which is a bit more than in the respective period of 2007, when there were transported 14457 thousand tons of oil products. In the first nine months of this year transportation of coal has increased considerably – there were transported 12899 thousand tons (+24.7%) of coal compared to 2007 – 10346 thousand tons.
Considerable increase was in transportation of chemicals – in the first nine months of 2007 there were carried 1275 thousand tons, but in the respective period of this year – 1976 thousand tons (+55%) of chemicals. In the first nine months of this year there was an increase also in transportation of grain and flour products – 857 thousand tons (+25.7%). Compared to 2007, when there were transported 2040 thousand tons of ferrous metals, in the first nine months of this year there were carried 2207 thousand tons of ferrous metals, which is 8.2% more than last year.
Amount of mineral fertilizers carried by rail has decreased – this year there were transported 3796 thousand tons of mineral fertilizers, but last year it was 11.3% more.
In nine months of this year there were carried 39741 TEU container units, and it is as many as in the respective period of 2007.
